For Autumn / Winter 18 PS Paul Smith peeks inside the artist’s studio with prints that reference famous artworks, found alongside authentic denim and styles inspired by sportswear. The key print for the season, Artful Objects, is a knowing and playful collage of famous images from iconic artworks. Sun owers, sharks and shiny red apples appear in the print, which adopts the visual style of screen-printing. The shark is one icon that stands out from the main print and is used as an individual graphic on intarsia knitwear, shirts and a coach jacket. Down outerwear has been developed and expanded from previous seasons. A classic parka comes in an oil slick nish with a water-resistant technical outer layer, while another down jacket has a micro- check gingham outer.

Classic overcoats feature an oversized and colourful blanket check, which also appears on shirts and knitwear. New denim for Autumn/Winter includes an exclusive Italian fabric with a pale pink selvedge; a vintage- style neppy denim which is woven so that the cotton bres extend and protrude unevenly across the surface giving the fabric a ‘snowy’ look. Nep denim is also used to create jackets and carpenter’s pants; and an Italian left-hand twill fabric that looks rigid but feels soft and comfortable. Sports stripes return this season in jersey, building on the cycling and sportswear in uences that run throughout the collection. Also a series of garment dyedT-shirts add rich colour to any out t. Finally, the popular PS Paul Smith Zebra now features as a colourful embroidered sweatshirt to accompany the best-selling polo shirts. A handy hip bag also expands the range.
